    Olson Advocacy Group LLC offers advocacy and advisory services and policy analysis through its principal, Scott Olson. The focus is on financial services issues, with a specialization in housing finance and mortgage issues. Serivces include: (a) Developing and executing advocacy plans to achieve the client's Congressional and Federal agency goals and objectives, (b) Contacts and relationships with key policy makers in Congress and the federal government, (c) Issue Expertise and Political Intelligence, and (d) Full service representation for clients seeking a stronger federal presence.

  • About Scott Olson

    Mr. Olson has 20 years of Capitol Hill experience, 15 of which he served on the House Financial Services Committee, where he was the Democratic Housing Policy Director until he left in September, 2011. During this period, he also had extensive involvement in banking, credit union, securities, insurance, and other financial services issues. Prior to that, he had 6 years private sector experience as a public finance investment banker, and 4 years experience in commercial real estate finance and investments. He graduated with an M.B.A. from UCLA and a B.A. from Stanford University.

  • Issue Areas

    The mortgage industry is in the midst of a period of unprecedented change and uncertainty, as Congress and the Administration debate the future of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, FHA, and mortgage servicing and loan modification practices. Firms are also adapting to new requirements arising under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, including creation of the CFPB, risk retention/QRM, QM, and other mortgage provisions under Title XIV of that Act. Scott Olson has extensive expertise and legistative experience in these issues, gained over the last 15 years, including oversight of the regulatory process and relevant federal agencies .

    During his time in Congress, Scott Olson worked on a range of financial services issues, including, bank and securities regulation and insurance issues. He also has broad budget knowledge, having played a lead role in drafting major House Budget Resolution alternatives in 1995 and 1998.

    In the affordable housing area, Scott Olson was the lead staffer on major pieces of legislation adopted in the last 15 years, including the 1998 public housing bill, the 2000 elderly and disabled provisions, the 2009 reform of McKinney-Vento homeless programs, and the creation in 2009 of the Tax Credit Exchange Program. He played a key role in drafting Section 8 reform legislation (SEVRA), and various HUD presevation initiatives, and worked on HUD and RHS oversight during his time on the Committee staff.
